No armed security in West Bengal Assembly except for chief minister: Calcutta HC rules

Security, both private and CISF, with arms will not be allowed inside the West Bengal State Assembly, except the Chief Minister’s security, following directives of the Calcutta High Court, the West Bengal Speaker said on Monday. Meanwhile, a resolution on atrocities against Bengali-speaking migrants will be brought and discussed for two days, Tuesday and Thursday.

The Speaker said the Lok Sabha and other assemblies also do not allow armed security inside the premises. The High Court had observed that if opposition security is not allowed inside the House, no security will be allowed.

“The CM’s security is essential inside and outside the assembly. So, I have allowed CM’s security. Restrictions will be applicable for all. No armed security will be allowed, be it private, state, or CISF,” the Speaker said.
The Assembly special session started today. A resolution was brought in the Assembly over atrocities against Bengali-speaking migrants in various BJP-ruled states. The Speaker said that a resolution is likely to be brought and discussion will take place on Wednesday and Thursday.

Sobhabdeb Chattopadhyay, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, moved the resolution today.
